8 min · the prehab plan

Why the weeks before surgery decide your recovery, and exactly how to use them.

Prehab is built into modern enhanced-recovery pathways for a reason. Here’s the plan.

Pre-surgery preparation
Trusted by
01 / Before the operation

Your date is set.
Now what?

Most people get a surgery date, a fasting sheet and a wave of anxiety, and nothing on how to physically prepare. Yet the fitter and better-prepped you arrive, the smoother the first weeks go.

You're anxious and the waiting is the worst part
A real chest-wall operation is coming and you feel powerless.
Nobody told you how to prepare your lungs
Post-op breathing protects you from the most common complication, a chest infection.
You don’t know if you should train or rest
Lift? Cardio? Stop everything? Most advice is vague. This gives you a clear prehab strength program and conditioning plan, scaled and surgeon-deferring.
Your breathing and posture will shape recovery
Rib flare ties directly to breathing mechanics and posture.
You haven’t optimised the controllables
Nutrition, smoking, alcohol, sleep, medical work-up, small things that measurably change surgical outcomes, and nobody handed you the list.
You don't know what to ask or pack
The right questions for your surgeon and the right setup at home make the difference between a scramble and a smooth recovery.
This is prehabilitation

Fitter in.
Faster out.

Getting measurably fitter and better-prepared before surgery so you recover faster, with fewer complications, built into modern enhanced-recovery (ERAS) pathways and associated with shorter stays and fewer pulmonary complications. This program is that discipline, organised for rib-flare and chest-wall repair, fully cited.

  • brace did its job on the flare. what i actually wanted was how to run it alongside the vacuum bell work in the same week. asked and got a proper answer same day, but that should be in the material, not something you have to know to ask for

Before You Start · Straight Answers

What people ask
before they begin.

The four that come up most, answered the same way I would answer them on a call.

Take the 60-second quiz
How long before I see a change? +

Posture and breathing shift first - most people feel that inside the first few weeks. Visible chest change is slower. In the case log above, Milo saw his first real change at 2 months, Ian at 6, Liam at 9. The programs run 16 weeks because that is roughly how long it takes for the training to show up in the mirror.

Am I too old for this to work? +

Almost certainly not. The clients documented on this page were 22 to 32 when they started. Cartilage does stiffen with age, so progress is slower the older you are - but slower is not the same as stopped. What changes is the timeline, not whether it is worth doing.

Do I need a gym, or can I do this at home? +

Either works. Every program ships with a gym track and a no-equipment track for the same 16 weeks, so you pick the one that matches what you actually have access to. You can switch between them mid-program without losing your place.

Pectus excavatum, carinatum, rib flare - is it the same plan? +

No, and that matters. A sunken chest and a protruding chest need close to opposite work, and rib flare often rides along with both. There is a separate program for each. If you are not sure which one you have, the 60-second quiz sorts it out and points you at the right starting place.

Mihail Veleski, founder of Mr. Pectus
I had it myself
From the founder

I'm not writing this as a doctor looking at a scan. I had the sunken chest, the flared ribs, the shirt that stayed on at the pool, and nobody could tell me what actually works.

Everything on this page exists because I needed it to exist ten years ago.

08 / Who built this

I had it. I fixed it.
Now I help you do the same.

I'm Mihail Veleski. Pale, skinny, sunken chest, flared ribs, I had it all, and it wrecked my confidence. Years of consistent, non-surgical training made my deformity unnoticeable.

I founded Mr. Pectus to give people the exact path I had to find the hard way, tested on my own body first, then refined every time someone hit a wall I had not planned for.

10 / Honest assessment

Let's be honest about
who this is for.

It's for you if
The operation is booked
Chest-wall or rib-flare repair, and you want the wait to count
You want to walk in fit
Arriving prepared changes what the first week after feels like
Breathing starts now
Not on the ward, with a spirometer and a nurse explaining it
Cited, so they trust it
A plan your surgical team can read and sign off on
Doing beats waiting
You'd rather act on something than sit in the anxiety
It's not for you if
You're not having surgery
Every week of this is built around a date on a calendar
You want to do nothing
Turning up cold and hoping is a strategy, just not this one
You won't check with them
Every exercise here gets cleared by your surgical team first
Your operation is tomorrow
There is no prep window left for this to do anything with

This program never overrides your surgeon, anesthetist or physiotherapist. Their instructions, and your fasting and medication rules, always come first.

12 / FAQ

Common questions.

How far before surgery should I start? +

Ideally 6–8 weeks out, but any prep window helps. Start the breathing work the day you read it, fluency with it is what protects your lungs after the operation. Even a short runway lets you optimise nutrition, sleep, posture and mindset.

Is this safe to do before a major operation? +

It’s education built around the principles of modern enhanced-recovery (ERAS) prehab, and every recommendation defers to your surgical team. Clear the exercises, supplements and decisions with your surgeon, anesthetist and physiotherapist first, their instructions and your fasting/medication rules always override this guide.

Do I need a gym? +

No. The strength program includes gym and bodyweight options, and much of the highest-value work (breathing, posture, cardio, mindset, home setup) needs no equipment at all.

Will this really change my recovery? +

Prehabilitation and structured pre-operative preparation are associated with shorter stays, fewer pulmonary complications and smoother recoveries in the research. The fitness, breathing skill and posture you bring in shape the first weeks afterward.

What if my surgery details are different? +

The program applies broadly across chest-wall and rib-flare repair approaches. Use the surgeon-questions section to confirm anything specific to your operation and team.

My operation is only two weeks away, is it still worth starting? +

Yes. You won’t build maximal fitness in two weeks, but the highest-value work fits any runway: breathing fluency, sleep, nutrition, home setup and the pre-op checklist. The program marks exactly what to prioritise when time is short.

How much time does the prehab take each day? +

Around 30–45 minutes: breathing practice, a short posture/mobility block, and cardio or strength on their scheduled days. The final week deliberately tapers, arriving rested matters more than one last workout.

Will my surgeon be okay with me doing this? +

The whole program is written to be surgeon-deferring, every recommendation is cited, nothing overrides your team, and it explicitly tells you what to clear with them. Many people bring the surgeon-questions section to their pre-op appointment; it reads as a prepared patient, not a difficult one.

Should I try non-surgical correction first before committing to the operation? +

That's between you and your surgical team, but it's a fair question, and rib flare is the most non-surgically responsive of the chest-wall issues. If your date isn't fixed yet, the Rib Flare Course covers the conservative route. If surgery is decided, this program makes sure you arrive prepared.

I'm more anxious than unfit, is this still for me? +

That might be the strongest reason to get it. The mindset, expectations and meditation sections exist because the anxious wait is often the hardest part, and the single best antidote is a concrete daily plan.

Does it cover recovery after the operation too? +

The final sections cover the first days and what to expect, but recovery is its own discipline, the Post-Surgery Rib Flare Recovery program is the dedicated, cited plan for the months afterward. They’re built to hand off to each other.

How do I get access after checkout? +

Instantly. Checkout takes a minute and the link to everything lands in your inbox right after, read it on your phone, tablet or laptop. Lifetime access, free updates, nothing to ship.

What if it’s not for me? +

You're covered by a 30-day, no-questions-asked, 100% money-back guarantee. If it isn't what was described, email me for a full refund.
